Mission:
The Wellness Center will:
- a. be a venue for education.
- b. define the value of “Wellness in the Workplace”.
- c. demonstrate how to create a culture of wellness in the workplace.
- d. justify how safety and wellness cannot be separate entities.
- e. show a direct correlation between each employees’ wellness and the ability to work safely.
- f. demonstrate how the physical, emotional and mental wellness of each employee affects their ability to respond, react and remember safety rules and regulations.
“WELCOME TO SUSTAINING WELLNESS”
The statistics are overwhelming. Chronic Disease is 75% preventable and an overwhelming issue in the workplace contributing to lost days of work, injuries and presenteeism.
And the answer is clear – If employers do nothing, the health status of it’s employees will deteriorate. According to U of M Health Management Research Center –“The next generation must be a Culture of Health. You get better by not getting worse. Low risk leads to zero trend.”
The vision of “Wellness in the Workplace” must :
- be clear within the Leadership.
- must be connected with company strategy.
- must be shared by employees.
Wellness Center:
Body weight, stress level, physical activity and smoking are the major contributors to chronic disease.
- 1. Station One: Screenings of Blood pressure, pulse, O2 saturation.
- 2. Station Two: BMI
- 3. Station Three: 6 minute walk test/Step up
- 4. Station Four: Quality of Life survey (short form) to fill out
Upon completion results, participants will have the opportunity to visit the following stations for information regarding their wellness needs, including:
- 1. Diabetes Control
- 2. Healthy Weight
- 3. Nutritional Power
- 4. Exercise - stretching, strengthening, endurance, using pedometers…
- 5. Healthy Heart
- 6. Stress Management and Reduction
- 7. Anger Management
- 8. Sleep Hygiene
- 9. Respiratory Health and Smoking Cessation
10.Cancer Prevention
11.Chronic Disease
12.Emotional Health – life satisfaction
13.Health Maintenance – importance of screenings…what should be done at what age and how often
MSC Tuesday presentations will focus on the topics above in some format as it relates to Wellness in the Workplace and then encourage folks to attend the Wellness Center.
